Reflection on week 2

Wheeeew. As I had commented previously, for me week 2 was so hectic&for me too this week is going to be more hectic. We've just been told at our weekly newsletter to prepare assessment tests for next week&also prepare the 2nd term exams which are scheduled to take place from 8th February. I read about CALL. For me this is my first time to read about it.  as I'm comparatively new in the teaching profession I was surprised there was such a term because I've been using it unconsciously and I didn't know that it was coined thus. Also Maria Busa's article provides 'a new perspective' too . This course is really opening lots of new 'doors'&'windows'for me.I know we are just supposed to read only two articles but I'll also try to read the third too when I'm free for my own development. Our school projector is out of order&we are still waiting for a new one.
We'll be having a workshop this Saturday for professional development. This is our second one this academic year. We really have a great tutor who has introduced us to the world of Harry Wong&Ted.He's teaching us new ideas for an interactive class&we too have to role play as students.

  1. Well, , week 4 is ending. I learnt a lot of new stuff this week&I taught a poem using tech.I still haven't finished the unit.I normally begin with reading, text level, word level, sentence level&finally I assess Listening, Speaking/Writing. I use Vocabulary for Spelling assessment. I also got new sites from my fellow teachers&am grateful for all of those who are sharing. It also opened my eyes to challenges facing all of us, whether technology wise or language learning. Adults too have difficulties in learning. My kids aren't shy in speaking. The way to learn a language is exposure to it.This is my advice&encourage reading different types of books. Have s nice weekend. Mine is over. Karima

  2. Week 5
Let's see how it was. Unfortunately I was sick with severe bronchitis.I only managed to go to school for 3days. I gave grammar&comprehension tests. The second term exams begin from 16-20 February. Students might be given a 2 week holiday to give us teachers a chance to mark&prepare reports. To the course; I learnt a lot this week. PBL, Alternative Assessment, Rubrics, WebQuests.I'm still stuck with the WebQuests.I'll keep on trying. I'm also busy preparing 5exams according to Checkpoint format/requirements,especially English, Maths&Science. The school want all grades to get used to checkpoint from grade 1-6.It's different from the traditional exams.I sent a letter to parents about the Web quest project but all the response I got is that their kids are studying for exams.I hope that the school opens in time for me to carry out my project. Let us wait and see. Karima
